What's with advertising people?
I just got back from a trip to New Zealand and instead of asking things like "Weren't the glaciers incredible?" Or, "Are the people as friendly as I've heard?" Or, "Did you go to the Bay of Islands?" They ask things like, "Did you see any good commercials?"
With that in mind, here's my report on advertising and marketing in a country the size of California with a population about the same as Orange County's.
Anyone want to open an Auckland office?
I picked up the current issue of AdMedia, New Zealand's monthly advertising industry trade mag, which listed and ranked every ad agency in the country. The largest agency bills US$113 million.
My old place, dGWB, would rank about seventh in the country. According to the last week's edition of the OCBJ, they rank number 10 in OC. Of course, I assume that the agencies in New Zealand inflate their numbers just as outrageously as the ones here. So move dGWB up a couple notches in both listings.
