Palm's newest PDA, the m125, appears to be an attempt to satisfy all comers: a handheld with the features of higher-end models, but at a lower price. CBiz got a first-time PDA user (me) to try out the m 125 and provide feedback. First, a bit about the m 125's history. Palm did away with its Roman numeral-based naming convention (think the Palm III and V models) earlier this year when it introduced two new groups: the m 100 family, which provides a lower-cost entry point for Palm newbies; and the m500 family, which meets the needs of more experienced power users. Each family contained two units: the m 100/m500 at the lower end, and the m105/m505 with added features and a higher price tag.
And then the m125 came along. Sporting the expansion slot normally only found on higher-end models, while retaining the shape of its fellow m100, the model's reviews so far are mixed: diehard Palm users say it's a misguided attempt to balance some of the features they value with a lower-cost device, while neophytes advocate the m100, which is now only US$99, as a cheaper way to own a Palm.
