To say that computer technology has come a long way in the last 10 years is something of an understatement.
The technology explosion has forced computer professionals like Gene Cooper and Don James, founders of Compu-Ware Data Processing Services in Marrero, to narrow their focus to stay competitive. "We decided a long time ago that we couldn't be all things to all people," says James.
In its nine years of existence, Compu-Ware has been somewhat of a chameleon in the New Orleans computer business. Only recently did they settle into their current niche as specialists in the distribution of data-communications equipment.
Cooper and James began as a two-man operation in 1983, selling software, consulting with area businesses, and programming for the state's Medicaid contract and the Pan-American Life Insurance Co., among others.
