The recent controversy involving Greenies-the popular dog treats that help maintain and clean teeth-has been bad for manufacturer S&M NuTec but it's opened a door for companies that make treats and products that improve canine dental health.
Greenies became headline news in February when a New York couple filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer, claiming their dog's death was caused by an undigested Greenie piece lodged in its intestine. Since then, more owners have come forward claiming Greenies contributed to their pet's health problems. But the controversy-and the fact that it emerged during National Pet Dental Health Month in February-has put a spotlight on products that clean canine teeth.
