CoolBrands International is taking its name seriously. The Canadian frozen-treat company, which was called Yogen Fruuz before it acquired the legendary Eskimo Pie brand, has bought Chipwich of Piermont, N.Y. Financial details were not disclosed. Chipwich makes a popular ice cream cookie sandwich featuring chocolate chips. "Chipwich complements our growing portfolio of brands, especially in the impulse arena, where Chipwich is a core segment product. CoolBrands expects to significantly expand distribution of the Chipwich brand-especially in supermarkets," CoolBrands chief executive David Stein stated in a release. CoolBrands also sells, through licensing deals, frozen treats under the Tropicana, Welch's, Weight Watchers, Smart Ones, Yoplait and Yoo Hoo brand names, among others. In addition, Coolbrands franchises and licenses frozen dessert outlets operated under a family of brands including Yogen Fruuz, I Can't Believe It's Yogurt, Bresler's, Swensen's, Golden Swirl, Ice Cream Churn and Java Coast Fine Coffees in about 80 countries.
