Business opportunities notwithstanding, in the end, it came down to road rage prevention.
Accounting and consulting firm Berkowitz Dick Pollack & Brant moved 34 employees last week to a new office on the 15th floor of 515 E. Las Olas Blvd., in Fort Lauderdale, leaving 80 people on the sixth floor at 200 S. Biscayne Blvd., in Miami.
"The commute became too time consuming, people were spending several hours a day commuting to and from Broward County," Richard A. Berkowitz, managing director and director of litigation services at the 23-year-old firm, founded in Miami.
The decision to split up the staff wasn't easy, but after an analysis showed 40 percent of employees live in Broward and a growing list of Broward clients including USA Telecom and Bergeron Land Development, the firm realized it had more than one business reason to improve the quality of life for employees, Berkowitz said.
