The Connecticut Resource Recovery Authority is expected to decide later this month whether to withdraw a garbage hauling contract it awarded to a subsidiary of Suburban Carting Company Inc. of Mamaroneck, N.Y.
The CRRA is concerned about allegations purporting to link Suburban Carting to organized crime. To date however, the only connection CRRA officials can determine is based on a two-year old New York State Assembly report that was released following an investigation into organized crime's influence on the New York garbage hauling industry.
In that 1986 report, commissioned by Assemblyman Maurice Hinchey, Suburban Carting principals Alfred DeMarco and Thomas Milo were linked with the Genovese crime family.
The report devoted two chapters to Suburban Carting, Milo and DeMarco's alleged ties to organized crime. The report also alleged links between Suburban Carting and Matthew "Matty the Horse" Ianiello, who is on...
