Set up changes are quicker than shear slitting and can be accomplished with the material web remaining in place. The main disadvantage is that blade life is shorter due to metal-to-metal contact. Blade life is always a consideration for any given application. Also ,the final cut is usually rougher than shear slitting and leaves a residue.
Shear slitting is the use of two sharp knives one against the other with material passing between (like a pair of scissors). An upper and lower knife makes a shear slitting assembly.
