If you're a FrontPage 98 power user, customizing the FrontPage Explorer menu bar will significantly improve its usefulness, and save you time as well. You can add your own menu commands and menu items to both FrontPage Explorer and Editor. You could use these commands to provide links to other applications that you use frequently, to insert the contents of other files into your pages, or just to insert commonly used text when you choose a menu item. They work like any other menu items that come with FrontPage 98.
To add items in the default menu, you'll need to plan ahead and work with the Windows Registry. In this article, we'll show you how to add a custom menu item to the FrontPage Explorer menu bar and use it to launch an application. But first, let's find out more about the Windows Registry.

Both Windows 95 and NT maintain a database file called the Registry that logs information about applications running on your system. Consequently, when you install FrontPage 98, certain information is entered in the Registry. FrontPage reads the Registry information when it boots up and looks for Registry keys that extend the FrontPage menus.
