David Weil joined Ampacet in 1958 and has held several positions: 1958 to 1959, export manager; 1960 to 1970 executive vice president and general manager; and since 1970, president and chief executive officer Prior to working for Ampacet he was employed at Raven Mills Corp., New York City, as export manager. After having served a three-year hitch in the U.S. Army-stationed in the Pacific with the Medical Corps, Mr Weil reached the rank of staff sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star and several citationshe was graduated from the City College of New York with a BA in 1951.
Ampacet's president/CEO is active in many business groups: the Society of Plastics Engineers; the Society of the Plastics Industry; and TAPPI. He is also a director of Chock Full O'Nuts; a director of the Westchester County (N.Y) Association; and a volunteer for several national and international civic and charitable organizations. Mr. Weil is married and has two grown children.
Ampacet
Founded in 1937 in Brooklyn, N.Y, Ampacet is a plastics raw material producer specializing in manufacturing color and additive concentrates. Tailored mixtures of polymers, pigments, and additives, these concentrates are used to enhance a material's physical properties, and they allow processors to produce an extruded or molded part with specified color and chemical characteristics. According to a company spokesperson, Ampacet is the leader in its field and is one of the largest independent producers of specialty additives in the world. With headquarters in Tarrytown, N.Y, just north of New York City, the company has four U.S. plants, one in Belgium, one in Italy, and two overseas licensees, and is represented in more than 75 countries. Ampacet's global network reports to the company's president/CEO.
Positioning additives
PE: Ampacet and other additives companies are behind-the-scenes developers of products that expand the applications of today's materials. When a newly developed tailored additive or concentrate permits a new application for an existing material the research has likely been done by or in conjunction with the company that developed the specialty additives or concentrates. How do you best state the position of the additives developers/manufacturers in explaining the importance and integral nature of additives to the plastics industry?
