Early last year the Graduate Certificate of Chartered Accounting Foundations was launched by Deakin University as one of the Institute's initiatives to address the skills shortage. What has it meant?
The graduate certificate was developed to bring the accounting knowledge and understanding of graduates from nonaccounting degrees up to the standards required by the Institute in order for them to enrol in the Chartered Accountants Program. The course enables students to acquire a basic grounding in financial accounting, management accounting, finance, taxation, audit and corporations law. It is comprised of eight core units, with each subject area assessed through a two-hour examination.
As it is studied in 12-18 months part-time online, it allows its students to continue to work while they study. While Deakin's flexible learning allows students to study from any location in the world, the graduate certificate is only open to Australian cititzens or permanent residents.
