Dell Computer Corp. may be expanding in Tennessee, but the Austin-area's largest employer continues to boost its local presence as well.
The Round Rock-based computer maker is close to completing a lease for nearly 185,000 square feet of office space in North Austin.
Dell will take both buildings at Plaza 35, a project under development by Brock Consulting Group at 12234 N. I-35 near Parmer Lane.
Asked about pending local expansions or their possible uses, Dell spokesoman Cathie Hargett says the company doesn't announce its activities in advance.
But Dell hasn't slowed its growth in the Austin area.
Hargett says the company expanded in Central Texas last year with 5,800 new jobs - nearly three times the 2,000 positions created in Tennessee - and launched five new facilities here.
"We're managing our growth in a way that makes the most sense for us," she says.
The pending deal at Park 35 isn't the first between Brock Consulting and Dell. In 1993, Brock sold Dell the 150 acres in Round Rock that is now the computer giant's corporate headquarters.
