FORT WORTH - Two abandoned movie theaters in Tarrant and Dallas counties are getting spruced up for new uses.
Great Texas Movie Co. L.L.C. spent the past six weeks and $75,000 renovating the abandoned General Cinemas theater at Ridgmar Square in Fort Worth. The six-screen theater has been converted into the new Ridgmar Movie Tavern and opened for business Nov. 14.
In addition to its traditional use as a movie theater, the tavern is being marketed as a place for corporate meetings and local sports viewing, offering beer, wine and pizza along with the standard movie concessions.
Jeffrey Benson, president and CEO of the Granbury-based theater developer, is negotiating with Trammell Crow to Purchase two other abandoned theaters in the Metroplex, he said. However, he is waiting for results from a full week of sales at his Ridgmar development before deciding to buy any more theaters.
