DeVry University has 87 campuses and learning centers in 25 states, but its new education center in Southfield is its first in Michigan and an effort to tap a growing market for career training in the Detroit area.
Classes began last week at the facility on Central Park Boulevard south of I-696, which is offering a new bachelor's degree program in technical management.
"I've been pushing to open a Detroit area campus for some time," said DeVry President and CEO Daniel Hamburger, an Oak Park native.
"But besides the sentimental pride factor for me, it's also a prime opportu. nity to be there. It would be a good fit to make partnerships in Detroit with so many ... adults looking to change careers, and not just in the auto industry."
