Monte Verita, Switzerland - A veritable robot rodeo was held at the end of a meeting called, "The Advanced Study Institute on the Practice and Future of Autonomous Agents" (ASI; Sept. 22-Oct.1, http://www.ifi.unizh.ch/asi-aa.html), organized by Barry Werger, a professor at Brandeis University (Waltham, Mass.).
Several events were presented. In one, robot soccer teams squared off. One was made up of fungus-eating robots, the University of Zurich's Didabots. It faced the Behavioral-Economist robots of the Free University of Brussels. The "ball" was...
