CHICAGO - The second of the DisneyQuest indoor interactive theme parks and ESPN Zone sports-themed facilities open here this summer just off the Magnificent Mile, otherwise known as Michigan Avenue.
The five-story, 100,000-squarefoot DisneyQuest opens June 16. The 35,000-square-foot ESPN Zone debuts July 10. Both attractions will be located on the same downtown block in a new development. "Chicago is one of the greatest entertainment towns in America. It's vibrant and exciting. We wish we were here sooner," said Art Levitt, president of Disney Regional Entertainment.
The first ESPN Zone opened last July at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The initial DisneyQuest opened last June at Disney World in Orlando. The third ESPN Zone is slated for New York's Times Square later this year.
DisneyQuest's third site will be in Philadelphia, opening in 2000. Levitt said he expects annual attendance of seven million between the two location-based destinations in Chicago.
