Last year, Donaire Aviation Inc. set up shop at Louisville's Bowman Field. With less than 500 square feet of space at 2815 Taylorsville Road, and only one plane in its inventory the business might not have looked like much.
For owner and president Isaac Donovan, however, it was a dream come true.
"As a teen-ager in Trinidad, I started Donaire Aviation. Of course it never got off the ground," said the soft-spoken Donovan. "But I became a pilot, flying for various companies such as UPS and Airborne Express. When I moved to Louisville, I saw a real need for a professional aviation flight school and decided to go forward with my dream."
Donovan and his wife, Annetta, a former air traffic controller who serves as vice president and coowner, launched the enterprise last October. Donovan said he hit one of his first goals in June when the newest flight school at Bowman Field was certified by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service to recruit and train students from abroad.
Donovan, who grew up in the Caribbena, said he has many contacts in that area and is using the certification to bring in more business.
