Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical Suite, a continuous speech recognition system specifically designed for medical professionals to create patient records, medical reports, notes, correspondence and other documents, was announced at the National Managed Health Care Congress by Dragon Systems(R), Inc. of Newton, Mass. Medical professionals can dictate directly into Microsoft(R) Word and Corel(R) WordPerfect(R) and most other Windows(R) applications, including medical applications.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical Suite is an especially enhanced version of the widely acclaimed Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition software that transcribes text spoken naturally to a PC. The enhancements include a comprehensive specialized medical vocabulary.
"It can take days for doctors, nurses and other medical professionals to produce critical documents because they are waiting for their dictation to be transcribed. In addition, transcription service costs can reach several thousands of dollars each week," said Roger Matus, vice president of North American Marketing for Dragon Systems. "Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical Suite can dramatically reduce transcription turnaround time and expense by immediately transcribing speech spoken into a PC."
One of the most significant features of the new Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical Suite is the comprehensive medical vocabulary that was compiled from an extensive collection of medical reports, journal articles and other medical text. Thousands of carefully chosen medical terms, abbreviations and phrases were added to the Dragon NaturallySpeaking standard vocabulary with spelling, pronunciation and language usage information. Language usage information provides information on how each word is used in context in order to increase the accuracy of the system.
