lthough Adobe Premiere has been getting a lot of attention lately in the sub-$1,000 nonlinear editing software category, there are other alternatives. One is this upgraded version of VideoShop, from Strata.
VideoShop, in various versions, has been around for years. This latest edition has more professional features than previous versions of the software and now supports DV capture and recording. It's well positioned to take advantage or the phenomenal growth of DV and the ability of professional and non-professional videographers to work with high-quality DV video at a relatively low cost. VideoShop 4.5 is for the Power Macintosh only, and is a full-featured, QuickTime-based, video editing application. It is QuickTime 3-compatible and has a feature set that's oriented toward working quickly. Its interface is unique and different from similarly priced systems. Although Adobe Premiere is designed to emulate some of the higher-end professional systems, Strata VideoShop 4.5 seems more oriented toward event video and for creating digital video content for Internet or multimedia productions.
