Entry into DVD production is possible with perseverance and a little luck.
The explosive growth of the DVD-Video format during the past three years has supported a larger and larger number of authoring and compression facilities...shops that are constantly looking for talented and experienced production professionals. Just how you become experienced in a new and emerging format is never explained to ambitious individuals looking to enter this labor pool but entry into the DVD production arena is possible with perseverance and a little luck. The classic "catch-22" is nowhere better exemplified than in the acquisition of DVD authoring skills when the hardware and software systems dedicated to making titles are expensive and always busy doing paying work. Finding a bona fide training facility in your geographic area is almost impossible and the quality of the instruction usually lacking. Unless you know a key person at a DVD production facility, your chances of getting an internship or interview are very low. This month we're going to examine the challenges facing individuals hoping to gain entry into the DVD production world...specifically, the trials and tribulations of becoming a DVD-Video author.
