GREEN IT
E.ON UK, which supplies power and gas to 4.9 million homes across the country, has cut its electricity bill for 10,000 PCs and monitors by £140,000 a year by automatically switching them off when they are not being used.
The savings follow an 18-month roll-out of SMS Companion scheduling software, which automatically powers down IBM and Hewlett-Packard PCs and monitors across E.ON UK's network.
The IT department's green strategy will support a business commitment to cut annual non-power station carbon emissions by 10%.
