Within seven years of taking his first job as a busboy Eddie Matney had become a partner in a restaurant at the age of 23. Today, at 33, he is chef-owner of Eddie's Grill, a contemporary American cuisine restaurant in Phoenix. There, Matney has become a virtual celebrity not only through his reputation as an enterprising chef but also through his daily exposure hosting a cooking segment on the city's morning show.

The one thing I have learned about being a chef is that you become a business man before becoming a chef. You should have the management skills in order to make money whether you are a chef or a general manager. If you have the ability to make money and creative food you'll do well.
