After 45 years, Tom Edmark plans to get out of the new-car business - in favor of used cars, service and a commercial real estate project.
He is starting to turn the 8.4-acre parcel now anchored by Edmark Lincoln-Mercury Oldsmobile Pontiac at 3120 E. Cleveland Blvd., Caldwell, into Edmark Plaza, an office-retail development that eventually will have nine buildings of 8,000 square feet each, plus three building pads for restaurants or other retail businesses envisioned as fronting Cleveland.
In a transaction expected to close next month, Edmark is selling the Olds, Pontiac and Lincoln-Mercury car and parts franchises to Larry Miller, the Salt Lake City-based auto dealer who owns the Larry Miller Automall at 6009 E. Cleveland Blvd.
Miller owns Boise auto dealerships Sundance Dodge, Larry Miller Pontiac Buick Cadillac, Larry Miller Honda and Larry Miller Subaru Mitsubishi, as well as the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association.
Edmark owns land at 41st Avenue and Cleveland across from Lanny Berg Chevrolet, and eventually intends to move the remaining used-car and service business there, he said Oct. 15. A building will be constructed there.
When the plaza nears completion, the 10,000-square-foot building that now houses the car dealership at 3120 E. Cleveland will be torn down.
