Mountain View-based El Camino Hospital was named as one of the nation's four best hospitals by the Economic and Social Research Institute after a review of more than 2,600 hospitals in 18 states.
The study reviewed four main factors that contribute to better patient outcomes in hospitals: the existence of a supportive culture, the ability to attract and retain staff, effective in-house data collection on processes and availability of technology to improve outcomes. Costs efficiencies were also a factor.
The study, released Tuesday, was financed by the Commonwealth Fund, a private foundation that supports healthcare research.
The report details strategies used at four hospitals: El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mission Hospitals in Asheville, NC.
