It appears the day of the enhancement-ladened card may be coming to an end, at least for some issuers. In late June, Citibank and Ford Motor Co. announced they were discontinuing the rebate program on the Ford Citibank card. And then in mid-July, AT&T Universal Card Services Corp. announced it is dropping several enhancements on its Visa and MasterCard standard cards.
In the case of the Ford Citibank card, the auto maker says it was the driving force behind the decision to discontinue the rebate program with Citibank at the end of the year. A Ford spokesperson says its move is based on "the desire to get people focused on why they like certain brands, rather than just the deal." Adds a Citibank...
