EPCOR Utilities Inc., the municipal electric utility for Edmonton, Alberta, has signed a tentative deal with Sherritt International Corp. and one of Canada's biggest public pension funds to build power generation, water and wastewater treatment facilities to support a planned coal gasification project in Alberta.
The Dodds-Roundhill development, announced in early 2007, would be the first coal gasification project to be built in Canada. Sherritt International and the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan Board, through a joint venture called the Carbon Development Partnership, are behind it.
