If Epson didn't invent the concept of the digital darkroom, the company has done a Lotto perpetuate it. Over the past 10 years, there's been a mass migration from the chemical vats, ammonia-tainted air and red glow of the darkroom to computer-based, scanner- and photo-printer-equipped workspaces, Epson has been turning out a variety of impressive tools for the digital darkroom. Here's a look at two of its digital darkroom products made for the prosumer market.
EPSON STYLUS PHOTO R1800 INKJET PRINTER
Epson designed the R1800 for photographers, graphic designers and others who need true photo-quality printing. It's also a speedy printer, with 5,760 × 1,440 dots-per-inch software-optimized resolution and robust enough to output thousands of pages a month.
Relying on a rainbow of eight individual ink cartridges - cyan, magenta, yellow, red, matte black, photo black, blue and a gloss optimizer - the R1800 can create inkjet images practically indistinguishable from photo-studio developed prints. In our tests, its...
