Total generation interconnection requests in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas Inc.'s queue jumped in July due to growing interest in natural gas-fired and solar energy resources, with two major gas-fired power projects approved for commercial operation in July.
ERCOT had 63,057 MW of total capacity under study as of July 31, compared with 60,015 MW as of June 30, according to the grid operator's July generator interconnection status report.
Interconnection requests for gas-fired and solar projects increased to 32,960 MW and 3,856 MW, respectively, compared to 30,504 MW and 3,631 MW, respectively. Meanwhile, requests for wind projects totaled 25,377 MW, compared with 25,016 MW. Generation requests for coal-fired and energy storage projects remain unchanged at 270 MW and 594 MW, respectively.
ERCOT reported that planned and installed wind capacity as of July 31 totaled 13,789 MW, compared to 13,586 MW as of June 30. Planned capacity with interconnection agreements specifically totaled 2,223 MW, up from 2,011 MW, it said.
