The next time the Dawgs beat the Vols, officials at The University of Georgia will have an easier time finding replacement goal posts, sod and pylons.
Atlanta's TeamLink Inc., which is regarded as the leading provider of college and pro sports statistics and facts to the media, will soon launch a Web site that will allow teams of all levels to buy equipment and supplies online through a reverse auction. The site also will allow schools to create athletic schedules and select opponents.
Esportsbiz.com is tentatively set to launch in February 2001. TeamLink Senior Vice President Terry Kelley said the company raised $2.5 million from investors and will work to raise another $2.5 million during the site's first year of operation. He projects Esportsbiz will have net revenue of $2 million in the first year and $6 million to $7 million in 2002.
"We've been asking business managers at universities, associate athletic directors and athletic associations what they want, and they've told us," Kelley said. "So we're building a digital marketplace for them."
