A RELEASE CANDIDATE of Exchange Server 5.5 was posted last week on Microsoft Corp.'s Web page, the company said.
As planned, Exchange Server 5.5, codenamed Osmium, will break the 16-Gbyte limit on message store size and add support for IMAP 4 and S/MIME, said Dave Malcolm, group product manager.
With S/MIME support, users can send and receive secure messages with users on other, non-Exchange S/MIME mail systems.
In addition, the company will ship Macintosh and 16-bit Windows clients that incorporate the look and feel of Microsoft's Outlook. Outlook is Redmond-based Microsoft's 32-bit Windows mail client.
With Exchange Server 5.5, Microsoft has added support for calendaring and scheduling to its Outlook Web Access client so "roaming" users can go to any terminal or PC, bring up the browser and access their schedule, Malcolm said.
