* New York Life has named John Y. Kim president. Kim, who will also remain the company's chief investment officer, succeeds Ted Mathas, who will retain his chairman and chief executive officer titles. He had held the president position since 2007.
Chris Blunt will become investments group president.
Kim joined the company in 2008. Before coming to New York Life, he was Prudential retirement president.
Blunt started his career at New York Life in 2004 as head of its retail investments strategy. He most recently was co-president of the company's insurance and agency group with Mark Pfaff, who plans to retire at the end of 2015. Before joining New York Life, Blunt was chairman and CEO of GivingCapital Inc.
Also, New York Life Investment Management LLC has a new chief executive officer, YieHsin Hung. She was previously the firm's co-president and succeeds Drew Lawton, who is now a special adviser to Blunt.
The other co-president of NYLIM, Stephen Fisher, is now president and reports to Hung. Fisher continues as president of the MainStay Funds.
Hung started at New York Life in 2010 and was promoted to NYLIM co-president in 2014. Before joining New York Life she was at Bridgewater Associates and was managing director and global head of strategic acquisitions and alliances at Morgan Stanley Investment Management.
Lawton also joined New York Life in 2010 and plans to retire at the end of the year.
Also, New York Life has named Douglas Wheeler senior vice president in its office of government affairs.
Before joining New York Life in 2011, Wheeler was director of the division of insurance at the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance.
* Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. named Elizabeth Ward chief actuary as Isadore Jermyn plans to retire. Jermyn is retiring after 34 years at the company and more than a decade as chief actuary.
Ward, an executive vice president at MassMutual, continues to be chief enterprise risk officer, a post she has held since 2007. Ward is also chairwoman of the American Council of Life Insurers' global risk management committee and founding member of the North American CRO Council.
