Abstract

In a petition for reconsideration filed Nov. 16, the companies asked the bureau to rescind its grant of the Vermont PIRG request. They said Verizon Wireless has committed to the Department of Justice to divest all of Rural Cellular's overlapping operations in Vermont. "Because the extension was based on the claim by VPIRG that it needed more time to submit an opposition to Verizon Wireless's acquisition of those same properties, the extension is no longer warranted (if it ever was)," they said. "Moreover, the Bureau's 90-day extension of time is unsupported by the facts and inconsistent with Commission precedent." But Sen. [Bernard Sanders] and Vermont PIRG said Verizon Wireless' pledge to divest overlapping Rural Cellular assets doesn't address all of their anticompetitive concerns of the merger.
