FORT WORTH - As a third-generation Tarrant County homebuilder, Bryan Mitchell was relieved when he heard Lockheed Martin had won the Joint Strike Fighter contract.
"It's going to mean lots of new job growth, and that's what really drives this market," said Mitchell, CEO of Fort Worth-based History Maker Homes.
According to Dallas-based homebuilding consultant Residential Strategies Inc., History Maker is one of around 10 to 15 home-building companies already working in an area of western Tarrant County that could experience growth as a result of the JSF contract.
But development will not necessarily be confined to the west. Colleyville developer Ross Calhoun believes all of Tarrant County will benefit.
"We track jobs, and when you're talking about creating jobs it's positive for the entire community of homebuilders," said Calhoun, vice president of Colleyville-based Centurion American Development Group.
