You don't have to tell Bill Campbell how important the technology sector is to the Portland-area economy. He sees it every day when he's at work.
"I think it's our single largest area of legal services," said Campbell, chair of the Ater Wynne law firm.
He admits that it's unusual for a law practice to concentrate so much on that sector of business, but it's proven to be a big winner for Ater Wynne. Maybe that's because the firm represents some of the biggest names in local technology, like Planar, Pixelworks, Flir Systems, TriQuint, Hewlett-Packard, Merant Software and ProSight.
As a full-service practice, Ater Wynne specializes in approximately 20 different areas of law. Their sector pertaining to high technology is called emerging business, which is headed by Campbell and Brenda Meltebeke. Twenty-five of the firm's 115 lawyers spend a considerable amount of their time in that segment and it's easy to see why.
