GAINESVILLE, FLA. -- A settlement with the Florida State Board of Accountancy will leave CPAs employed by IDS Tax and Business Services free to prepare financial statements.
IDS had filed suit in March claiming the Florida board discriminated against it by holding that CPAs employed by IDS, which is not a licensed CPA firm, could not prepare third-party statements. IDS claimed that since Florida law allows anyone to prepare such statements it was being unfairly singled out.
The settlement concludes that IDS and its employees can indeed prepare financial statements.
But the case leaves the major issue undecided whether CPAs employed by IDS and other non-licensed operations can hold themselves out as CPAS. And IDS is ready to force the issue by going to court again.
