Sam Danou was born in Baghdad and came to the U.S. in 1965 after attending college at Al-Hikma University. He was 21 and, like most of his peers, was exposed to media and pop culture that showcased the opportunities that could be found in the U.S.
His start in business was as a jewelry artisan for Sidney Krandall & Sons, which was in Highland Park at the time. He got the entrepreneurial bug a few years later and bought a party store in Pontiac....
