Abstract

While President Trump has made clear he believes Mexico is the bigger problem in what he has termed one of the worst trade deals in U.S. history, Derek Burney this week called Trump a "wild card" Ð and predicted uncertainty will rule once talks begin. Burney also urged the Canadian government and provincial leaders to continue lobbying and ourtreach efforts in the U.S. "We need to prepare strategically and tactically, working the U.S. political system as never before, mobilizing support for our objectives and explaining to Americans precisely why a good trade relationship with Canada is very much in their interest," he said.
