Electricite de France (EdF) and Milan-based utility AEM on Friday announced the signing of a partnership agreement that will enable the two companies to jointly take over Italy's second largest power generator and gas producer, Edison.
The path for this deal was cleared on May 6 by an eleventh hour compromise, under which Italy agreed to lift a restriction it had placed on EdF's participation in Edison. In return, France agreed to give Enel, Italy's biggest power producer, greater access to the French electricity market ("http://www.EnergyIntel.com/ DocumentDetail.asp? 147617" IOD May9,p7).
