In a time and era where recycling is the politically correct and right thing to do, one could say Friedland Industries, Inc., has led the way. The Lansing company is mid-Michigan's original recycler. Since 1886. Friedland Industries has been recycling scrap metals and paper stocks.
"We are the real recyclers," explained Lawrence Bass, president of Friedland Industries. "Recycling is a relatively new phrase in the last decade, but we've been doing it at Friedland for over 100 years." Bass has been at the helm of Friedland Industries since the mid-'80s, when he bought the assets of the old Friedland Industries. He has changed the operation to meet the demands of the changing business environment in order to continue to move the company forward. The company has seen great growth in recent years and has implemented many new systems and technology to keep up with the demands of today's marketplace. Friedland Industries is a member of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, one of about 80 members in Michigan. Like many businesses and industries, the scrap recycling industry is in a state of consolidation.
