The recent exposure of a major scandal in the petroleum sector illustrates the way Nairobi's failure to tackle corruption is damaging the economy and investor confidence. In January it emerged that during 2008 the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), the parastatal responsible for fuel distribution, released 126m litres of fuel- worth approximately KSh7.6bn (US$ioom)-to Triton, a small player in the market, without receiving the necessary financial authorisation.
