PHILADELPHIA, PA
FOUNDED FOUR YEARS AGO this month, Gallery 339, Philadelphia's only photography gallery, has earned respect for its well curated shows. Its mission has been to bring national attention to local photographers such as Paul Cava and George Krause, and to provide Philadelphia with a place to see new photography from further afield.
But in the last two years, gallery director Martin McNamara and partner Tom Callan have been expanding the art world's view of Gallery 339 with exhibits that are both ambitious and, in McNamara's words, "fun." By "fun," McNamara means "something that shakes things up a little bit," he says. "' Fun' equates to a little out of the ordinary, that expands people's perceptions of what we do."
