Bloomington - based GCI Tunheim has shed approximately 30 positions since the firm was acquired 18 months ago, when it employed about 70.
The job reductions were not only a result of the stalled economy, but also due to cost savings related to the January 2001 acquisition by GCI Group, a New Yorkbased public relations agency and subsidiary of advertising giant Grey Global Group, said Kathy Tunheim, president.
As a result of the deal, GCI Group absorbed many of the tasks that the formerly independent firm used to handle. For example, she said, business development and marketing used to hold three slots but is now down to one. Same for other areas of the business as the agency collaborates with other offices in the group instead of standing alone.
Some clients have added GCI Tunheim employees to their payroll in an attempt to save costs, said Tunheim. "We have to take it as a compliment."
