The Waukesha County Exposition Center is receiving a $365,000 face-lift, thanks in part to the General Electric Co. annual shareholder meeting that will be held there April 24.
The changes will not only help the center impress the 1,500 shareholders expected to attend but also help the facility attract corporate business in the future, officials say.
After they toured the facility late last year, executives of Waukesha-based GE Medical Systems offered about $100,000 to Waukesha County to remodel the expo center before the meeting, said Dale Shaver, Waukesha County director of parks and land use.
Because of the quick turnaround needed on the remodeling, the County Board passed an ordinance accepting GE Medical Systems' contribution in kind. That meant GE could hire its own contractors to do the work that GE wanted.
The county's agreement with GE specified that Shaver's department would review and approve remodeling plans.
