General Cinema Theatres has subleased its Fort Lauderdale movie theater on Sunrise Boulevard to a local operator. It is the first of many such deals the company is projecting.
The move is in line with the national movie chain's strategy to shift its efforts to core markets in the Northeast and Midwest.
General Cinema, based in Chestnut Hill, Mass., operates eight theaters in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. It had planned to open a ninth at West Palm Beach's CityPlace but transferred the deal last year to Fort Lauderde's Muvico Theaters instead.
