Think of Intergraph Corp.'s GeoMedia more as a developer's tool than as an out-of-thebox end user's geographic information system (GIS) program. GeoMedia delivers only a basic set of map creation and analytical tools with no charting tool, no point aggregation and no overlay analysis. And the only drawing utensil provided for creating new map features is a polyline tool. GeoMedia does, however, offer a strong development platform for agencies that want - and have the requisite in-house programming expertise-to develop custom GIS applications.
We evaluated GeoMedia 2.0 using the same testing methodology as our March 2, 1998, comparison of Autodesk Inc.'s Autodesk World 1.0, Caliper Corp.'s Maptitude 4.0, Environmental Systems Research Institute Inc.'s (ESRI) ArcView 3.0a and MapInfo Corp.'s MapInfo Professional 4.5.
