The state of Alaska is planning a competitive sale of geothermal leases in the Mount Spurr area west of Anchorage that could occur in January if the present schedule holds, state Department of Natural Resources officials said Aug. 27.
The state is now considering offering 15 tracts of land, at 2,560 acres each, located on the south flank of Mount Spurr, an active volcano, according to Kathy Means, a resource land manager with the DNR.
