A local nonprofit with the mission to boost the standing of women- and minority-owned businesses is receiving an injection of resources from the federal government with the chance that it could triple the amount.
Good Work Network is getting $250,000 from the Small Business Administration. It was one of just three organizations nationwide to receive the grant funding, with the other recipients in Seattle, Washington, and Tucson, Arizona. The SBA has the option to renew the grant at the same dollar amount for two years, meaning the recipients could see up to $750,000.
The money is intended for the long-term benefit of businesses that take part in its 8(a) Business Development Program. In New Orleans, the Good Work Network intends to use the SBA funds to further its ConnectWorks initiative. Started in 2010, it strives to link...
