Grocers Supply Company Inc. could return to its roots with the expected purchase of Houston-based Fiesta Mart this week.
An official with Fiesta declined to comment on the impending acquisition, saying that an Aug. 26 press release would provide details about the deal.
Officials with Houston-based Grocers Supply were not available for comment.
Founded in 1972, Fiesta is one of the last remaining independent grocers in the area.
And Grocers Supply's roots run even deeper.
The company began in Houston in 1917 when founder Joe Levit purchased a grocery store at the corner of Winter and Colorado. The company now primarily serves as a grocery distributor, counting Fiesta and Houston-based Rice Epicurean Markets among its customers.
Fiesta operates 12 stores in the Houston area, 14 locations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and single locations in Austin and Waco.
