A group of providers and vendors have formed a coalition to create guidelines for using the ANSI 835 electronic remittance advice standard. The coalition's goal is to make posting data from 835 transactions into accounts receivable information systems an automated process. The coalition has formed six subcommittees, covering financial, coding, technical, policy, education and return on investment issues. Following initial analysis of the issues, the coalition will approach health insurers to harmonize strategies to improve adoption of the standard transaction. Charter members of the 835 Coalition include: the American Hospital Association; American Medical Association; Allina Hospitals & Clinics; Claredi Corp.; Clinitech Information Resources; DCEDify; Healthcare I.T. Transition Group; Intermountain Healthcare; Laboratory Corporation of America; Mayo Foundation; Medical Banking Project; Medical Group Management Association; Montefiore Health System; PNC Bank; and the chief business office of the Veterans Health Administration. As the coalition develops guidelines through a consensus process, it will publish them via its newly launched Web site, 835coalition.org.
