A married couple work together to design and build a farmhouse kitchen
TEFANIE AND ANDREW MARTIN ALREADY HAD SEVERAL ADVANTAGES over the average homeowner when they decided to design their own house and create the ideal kitchen for their busy family of four. The spouses co-own Warner, N.H.-based Northpeak Design, where Andrew Martin is the general contractor and builder, and Stefanie is the firm's photographer. The house itselfwas an in-stock design they chose from Grantham, N.H.-based Yankee Barn Homes, so the framing and exterior of the house were built for them.
FUNCTIONAL LAYOUT
With the walls already in place, the couple needed to find the best ways to use the pre-designated floor plan.
"The bump out on the first floor was perfect for the working part of the kitchen," said Stefanie Martin, explaining that this layout feature juts out from the main house onto the porch.
